The Writing Program at the University of Pittsburgh is a large and diverse community of poets, novelists, short story writers, essayists, podcasters, audio narrative writers, and journalists interested in traditional forms and emerging media. The work we produce is wide-ranging, ambitious, and provocative, and is likely to appear anywhere--from venerable literary journals like Callaloo to groundbreaking digital publications like The Atavist to one of the legendary magazines such as The New Yorker. Both our faulty and our graduates work at the highest level. Our Pittsburgh Contemporary Writers Series brings outstanding emerging and well-known writers to our campus, and our Center for African American Poetry and Poetics produces unmatched programming for our community. We welcome all new writers interested in producing serious work in a rigorous but collaborative community setting.

Our English Department advisors can provide personalized help, conversation, and guidance to help you achieve your academic goals.
