Barbara Edelman
Barbara Edelman received a BA from Colgate University, an MA from California State University Northridge, and an MFA in poetry from the University of Pittsburgh. She teaches in the writing, literature, and composition programs, with a concentration in poetry and a particular interest in Shakespeare and in modern and contemporary poetry.
Recent courses taught include Reading Poetry, Introduction to Shakespeare, Introduction to Creative Writing, and Introduction to Poetry.
She currently chairs the Creative Writing Awards Committee and co-coordinates the Writers’ Café.
She is the author of a poetry chapbook, A Girl in Water, from Parallel Press at the University of Wisconsin. Her poems have appeared in journals including Prairie Schooner, Poet Lore, Cimarron Review, and 5 AM; in translation in the Italian journal, Nuovi Argomenti; and in the anthologies Along These Rivers: Poetry and Photography from Pittsburgh, Poets for Humanity; More from Parallel Press Poets, Parallel Press; and A Fine Excess, Contemporary Literature at Play, Sarabande Books
She has received the Scott Turow Award for short fiction, an individual artist grant in poetry from the PA Council on the Arts, and residency fellowships from Vermont Studio Center and Virginia Center for the Creative Arts. Her one-act play, “Charades,” received production as a winner in the Pittsburgh New Works Festival.
